Why Summer Panfish Move Offshore
Many anglers expect crappies to spend the summer around weeds. However, Peterson shows that large schools can remain suspended over the deepest parts of a lake. Instead of holding tight to structure, these fish roam open water while feeding on baitfish. Because the schools stay on the move, locating them requires a different mindset. Even so, once anglers find active fish, they can experience steady action. Peterson explains how these suspended crappies often hold several feet below the surface despite being over much deeper water, creating a unique opportunity for precise presentations.
Why BFS Fishing Panfish Works
Lightweight tackle makes a noticeable difference when targeting suspended fish. Peterson highlights the advantages of modern BFS rods and reels, including longer casts, better control of lightweight lures, and improved presentations. Those features allow anglers to reach distant schools while maintaining excellent lure action. Peterson also discusses matching tackle to the conditions.
