48 YO Teacher Kept 16YO Student Locked for 263 Days…Police Refused to Intervene
A 16-year-old girl ran away from a shelter in Columbus, Ohio, and disappeared for 263 days. No one knew if she was dead or alive. But she wasn’t taken to another state. She wasn’t even in another city!! She was just two doors down from a neighbor who was actively looking for her!
And when they finally found her, it turned out she had been kept locked in the house of her former high school teacher.
But here’s what makes this case so infuriating…It’s not just that a 48-year-old teacher hid a missing teen in his home. It’s that police knew!! They actually went to that house TWICE and were told she wasn’t there. And they just walked away.
The girl’s family told police from the beginning where she could be. They provided photos, and they even pointed at the house. They kept saying it over and over. But the police just closed the door on them.
On December 2, 2025, a 16-year-old girl, whose name has not been released to protect her privacy, walked out of Huckleberry House, a crisis shelter in Columbus, Ohio. It’s a place for teenagers who have nowhere safe to go and are experiencing family conflict, homelessness, or both.
The girl was wearing a gray hoodie and black pants, and she headed south. But she didn’t know Columbus well because she was from Springfield.
And she didn’t get far.
