* Initial Classification: Law enforcement initially categorized her as a runaway due to recent family tensions, including an argument with an uncle the day before she disappeared, during which her phone was broken.
* The FBI Investigation: The FBI officially joined the case in 2008. While early speculation attempted to link her disappearance to other local high-profile kidnappings (such as Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus), no evidence was ever found to connect her to those cases.
