The Four Tells: How Companies Learned to Poison You Legally

In this 360° walk through Korce, we examine “The Four Tells” of corporate corruption. When competition is treated as an engine without a conscience, companies often solve “math problems” where projected profits outweigh human harm. From the chemical waste at Love Canal to the toxic legacy of leaded gasoline and Thomas Midgley Jr., the playbook of denial and PR speak remains the same.

We break down the four signals that a company is prioritizing its bottom line over your safety:

The gap between marketing “sustainability” and actual actions.
The fog of PR speak (like the “impact assessments” in the Albanian Flamingo Revolution).
The manufacturing of external enemies to distract from internal numbers.
Who gets protected with exit packages versus who gets punished with severance.
If you are new to 360° videos, you can look around by dragging your finger on your phone or using your mouse on a desktop. The YouTube app on mobile provides the best experience—simply move your phone to change your view of the walk.

In 1953, a chemical company sold a piece of land to a Niagara Falls school board for one dollar — with a note in the deed mentioning that twenty-one thousand tons of industrial waste were buried underneath it. They built an elementary school on it anyway.

That’s how Love Canal began. It’s also how a hundred-year corporate playbook runs — with one line in a legal document that nobody is expected to read carefully.

This is Part V of Philosophy Walking. Parts I through IV showed you competition running at the scale of nuclear weapons, your paycheck, and your government. This walk turns the same lens on companies — the biggest players in the worst-behaving industries, how they run the playbook, how to spot them, and why they’ve been getting away with it for a century.

By the end of this walk you’ll have the four tells from Episode 4 applied to companies — the gap between what they say and what they do, the fog of PR-speak (with a live example from the Flamingo Revolution against the Affinity Partners resort project at Sazan and the Vjosa-Narta wetlands), the manufactured enemy, and the pattern of who gets punished versus who gets protected. Plus the historical case that defines the whole playbook — Thomas Midgley Jr., leaded gasoline, DuPont, and General Motors at the “Loony Gas Building” in Bayway, New Jersey — a hard look at greenwashing, lobbying, and settlement clauses, and the question the whole walk builds to: why do we let oligopolies and monopolies get this powerful in the first place?

WATCHING IN 360°

This walk is filmed in 360° — you can look around in every direction while I walk with you. Different devices handle 360° differently. Here’s what actually works:

YouTube app on phone (iOS or Android) — this is by far the best way to watch. Move your phone around to look wherever you want, or drag your finger across the screen. Works best with headphones.

YouTube on desktop (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari) — click and drag with your mouse to look around, or use the W, A, S, D keys. It works, but it’s less intuitive than the phone app.

VR headset (Meta Quest, Vive, Google Cardboard, etc.) — the most immersive option if you have one. Open through the YouTube VR app or your headset’s browser.

Smart TV, Roku, Apple TV, Chromecast — 360° controls are limited or missing on most TV apps, and the picture may look distorted or stretched. If that’s what you’re seeing, switch to your phone.

If the video ever looks like a warped fisheye and you can’t move the camera, your device isn’t rendering 360° properly. Open it in the YouTube app on your phone.
