Mystery Potion – HOWLIN’ WOLF [Official Audio]

Mystery Potion – Howlin’ Wolf

(Verse 1)
Born down in Mississippi, White Station ground,
Chester Arthur Burnett, big feet on the sound.
Cotton fields and juke joints, hard times and rain,
Learned that guitar from Patton, felt the Delta pain.
Granddaddy’s wolf stories put the fire in his blood,
Grew up tall and heavy, three hundred pounds of flood.

(Chorus)
Howlin’ Wolf… Howlin’ Wolf…
Voice like thunder rolling from the soul of a man.
Howlin’ Wolf… Howlin’ Wolf…
Shake the floorboards, rattle every heart in the land.
Moanin’ at midnight, smokestack lightnin’ in the sky,
That big black howl gonna make the whole world cry.

(Verse 2)
West Memphis radio, Sam Phillips heard the call,
“Moanin’ at Midnight” cracked the Memphis wall.
Packed up for Chicago, Chess Records took him in,
Hubert Sumlin’s guitar cut sharp as sin.
Willie Dixon wrote the poison, Wolf poured out the fire,
Muddy on the other side, but the Wolf stood higher.

(Chorus)
Howlin’ Wolf… Howlin’ Wolf…
Voice like thunder rolling from the soul of a man.
Howlin’ Wolf… Howlin’ Wolf…
Shake the floorboards, rattle every heart in the land.
Killing Floor’s a-waiting, Spoonful of the blues,
Back Door Man is knockin’—bring your midnight news.

(Bridge)
Six-foot-three shadow, harmonica wail,
Stage lights trembling when he hit that trail.
British boys came knocking, Stones and Clapton too,
Learned to howl the truth the way the Wolf would do.
Never lost the country in that city electric roar,
Just turned the volume up and opened every door.

(Verse 3 / Outro)
January cold in ’76, the howl grew still,
Records kept on spinning, and they always will.
Blues Hall, Rock Hall, his name upon the wall,
Chester Burnett’s spirit still answers every call.
So when the night gets lonely and the wind starts to moan…
Listen close, children—Howlin’ Wolf is home.

Howlin’ Wolf… Howlin’ Wolf…
Still howlin’… still howlin’…
Still howlin’ on.
