One Phone Call, 10 Minutes, and 1643 Lives Saved! The Real Hero of Nepal’s Trishuli Valley

One phone call… just a 10-minute deadline… On one side, hundreds of tons of black, monstrous floodwater mixed with mud, rocks, and snow rushing down from the hills. On the other side, 1,643 innocent children sitting in a 3-storey school building!

Think for a second – If that teacher had been 5 minutes late, the entire school and those children would have become a living grave today. But one decision by that teacher saved over 1600 children. This story is now going viral all over social media.

In this video, we show you the complete true story.

THE INCIDENT:
This happened in Nuwakot District, Nepal, in the beautiful Trishuli Valley. There was a beautiful 3-storey concrete school 60 meters above the Trishuli River – Tribhuvan Trishuli Secondary School. For the poor and middle-class people of that village, that school was the temple of their future. 1,643 children came there daily.

The Principal and English teacher was 47-year-old Rajendra Dawadi. He was not just a headmaster, he loved those 1600+ kids like his own.

At 9:20 AM on a Wednesday morning, while classes were going on, he got a panicked phone call from a close friend: “Rajendra… Run! The entire village upstream has been washed away! The river is coming in Rudra form!”

A normal person would have run to save his own life. But Dawadi thought of the 1,643 faces in the classrooms.

He ran to the bell and rang it continuously – Dhan… Dhan… Dhan… It was not a recess bell, it was a DANGER bell! He shouted: “Don’t touch bags or books! Take the children out and run towards the high hill!”

At the same time, he called all the school bus drivers and told them not to come towards the school. Tragically, one bus that was out of contact was already crossing the bridge over the river.

What happened next was like a real horror movie. 1,643 students ran towards the high hill. One student even had a panic attack due to fear.

Dawadi did not run ahead to save himself. He stood behind the last child like a shield and led everyone to a sacred Bodhi Tree on top of the hill.

From there, they saw the black flood, giant rocks, and mud hit the school campus. In just a few moments, the 3-storey building, the Ram Mandir next to it, and the entire market were washed away. Not even a trace of the school remained. But miraculously, all 1,643 children were safe.

Tragically, two staff members lost their lives – 32-year-old Social Science teacher Santosh Pariyar, who went back to his room near the river to prepare snacks, and school peon Sultan Lama, who went back to close the school gates.

The school building may be gone, but the future of those 1,643 children is still alive. All because of one teacher – Rajendra Dawadi.
