In this video, a Detroit man recounts what he saw on the day Jimmy Hoffa disappeared. Back in 1975, 18-year-old Michael Yarbrough came to Detroit to find a job at the Renaissance Center, which was still under construction. While looking for an employment office, he got lost and ended up in a restricted area. He heard someone yelling for help and followed the sound. Behind a plastic sheet and down a ramp, he found a dusty room with four large concrete pillars and several men standing around. He didn’t realize it then, but he now knows he walked in on mob members burying Jimmy Hoffa alive. When one of the men moved toward him, Michael ran, and managed to escape.
During the ordeal, a construction worker’s hard hat was dropped in the wet cement, and you can still see that hat stuck in Tower 300, leaving behind physical evidence to back up what Michael is saying.
In the years that followed, Michael worked hard, raised his family, and went on to become a corrections officer. But the memory of Hoffa’s death has haunted him ever since.
Now, with the Renaissance Center set to be demolished, there’s a new hope that investigators will finally use ground-penetrating radar in the area where Michael says Hoffa’s remains are buried. When the towers are demolished, one of two things will happen: a long-held secret will finally come to light, or it will disappear forever.
