The tragic deaths of 17-year-old Amari Clarke in District Heights, Maryland, 12-year-old Mhilo Young, 14-year-old Tyale Coates in Washington, D.C., and 3-year-old Journee Carroll-Ward in Dumfries, Virginia have left many Americans heartbroken and searching for answers.
Amari Clarke reportedly lost his life over a pair of sneakers and a cellphone. Mhilo Young and Tyale Coates were simply trying to buy food from a food truck when violence changed their families forever. Three-year-old Journee Carroll-Ward was killed in front of her home, her young life ending long before she had the chance to fulfill her dreams. These are not just statistics. They were children. They had families, futures, and people who loved them.

The recent murders of 17 year old Amari Clarke in district Heights Maryland,  12 year-old Mhilo Young and  14 year-old Tyale Coates in Washington, DC knocked me to my knees in tears. Amari’s senseless deaths for sneakers and a cellphone and Mhilo and Tyale’s death as they simply trued to buy food at a food truck must not be in vein. Their deaths need to be a catalyst for change. Three year old Journee Carroll Ward was shot and killed in 2023 in front of her home in Dumfries, Va by her then 17 year old sisters boyfriend after an argument. Her smile was so beautiful it saddened me to know it was gone away!
