On July 3, 1992, 13-year-old Isis Denise “Dee Dee” Dawkins disappeared from her home in Hickory, North Carolina after telling her family she was going “out back.” Nearly a month later, her body was discovered in the Henry Fork River in nearby Brookford. For decades, Dee Dee’s family has fought for answers in a case they believe was mishandled from the very beginning. Investigators allegedly treated Dee Dee as a runaway instead of a missing child, key evidence later disappeared, and multiple questions surrounding the investigation remain unanswered. In this video, we examine the heartbreaking disappearance and murder of Dee Dee Dawkins, the controversy surrounding the investigation, the reopening of the case in 2023, and why her family continues to demand justice more than 30 years later.
