It’s bigger than a ponytail!

Y’all are missing the entire point. It was never about the fucking ponytail.
The bigger issue is the way Black girls are constantly viewed through an adult lens. A little Black girl can wear the same hairstyle, the same outfit, or do the exact same thing as a little white girl, and somehow she’s labeled “fast,” “grown,” or “doing too much.”
Meanwhile, if this were a little white girl with a ponytail, would anybody have anything to say? Probably not.
The problem isn’t the ponytail. The problem is that society has a long history of oversexualizing and adultifying Black girls. They aren’t allowed to just be children. They’re judged differently, criticized more harshly, and expected to carry standards that other children simply aren’t.
It’s exhausting. Let these babies be kids.
