Chapter One of The Blue Cat of Castle Town — a nearly-forgotten Newbery Honor classic from 1949 by Catherine Cate Coblentz, read aloud and illustrated one chapter at a time.
Under a blue moon, a small blue kitten is born in a nest of clover and Queen Anne’s lace. His mother warns him never to listen to the river — but the river has a song, and a dark spell, and a quest in mind for a cat that is blue. This first chapter tells how the town below the mountain came to be, and sends our small blue knight out to find a hearth where his own song will be heard.
Settle in for about twelve minutes. A gentle one for the end of the day — for you, or for a child at bedtime.
