On June 18, 2026, a 13-year-old girl was abducted after boarding an e-rickshaw in Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan.
The driver, Rambabu, allegedly sold her to local hotel operators, trapped her for five days across four establishments—Hotel Joy Inn, Hotel Khungar, Hotel Saffire, and Hotel Dream.
During her captivity, she was repeatedly assaulted by an estimated 24 to 32 men and forced to drink alcohol to numb her pain.
Following a missing person report, a police raid on June 22 successfully rescued the survivor from Hotel Joy Inn. The revelation of the crime triggered nationwide outrage, sparking massive street protests.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed, leading to the arrest of 18 individuals so far, including the driver, hotel owner Mayank Sain, and manager Hardeep Nath. Additionally, authorities deployed bulldozers to demolish three of the implicated hotels for severe building by-law violations.
As the case gained national attention, social media was flooded with graphic, fabricated content. Viral videos and photos falsely claimed the survivor had died, recycling unrelated footage of a 2025 tragedy in Uttarakhand and an organ donation ceremony in Gujarat.
Other clips showing mobs beating the accused were exposed as unrelated incidents from Gujarat, prompting police and fact-checkers to urge the public to stop sharing unverified media that misleads the ongoing investigation.
