An AI-generated short film — a Paranormal Detective Mystery (Part 2)
Episode 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7pYdzeqdVGA
In Part 2, detective Morris Fletcher follows the investigation deeper into the mystery surrounding Jeffrey Spender’s disappearance. As new clues emerge, the quiet town becomes increasingly secretive, and the investigation leads him into the frozen woods outside town, where something inexplicable appears to be hidden.
Like Part 1, this film continues an experiment that began as a way to explore AI as a previsualization tool for a future live-action short film. It eventually evolved into a standalone short film based on a screenplay I wrote about 15 years ago while living in Vancouver.
Most of the film was generated at 720p, as that was the highest resolution available under the unlimited generation plan I had access to. Going higher meant paying per generation, which simply wasn’t viable for a project of this size. I later upscaled the footage to 4K in DaVinci Resolve.
Part 2 was completed in approximately one week.
Technical Notes
I used Seedance Unlimited Fast for most of the shots, with Seedance 2.0 for a few establishing shots. The images were generated at 2K using Nano Banana 2.
The film was edited in DaVinci Resolve and graded using Dehancer. I also used digital diffusion from Video Village.
