Some snakes hunt humans, and one of them will swallow a grown adult whole. Most snakes run from you. These six do the opposite.
This is a countdown of the six snakes on Earth most dangerous to people, from the ones that will openly attack you to the single species with a repeated, filmed, police-confirmed record of eating humans. We start with the king cobra, the longest venomous snake in the world, then move through the venomous sea snakes of the Indo-Pacific, the black mamba of the African savanna, and the record-breaking green anaconda, the heaviest snake alive.
Then we reach the constrictors that actually swallow their prey whole. The African rock python has a confirmed human kill in the scientific record. And the reticulated python, the longest snake in the world, is the one that erases every last shred of doubt: the man found inside a python in Sulawesi, and the deaths that have followed almost every year since.
Real cases, real science, and what separates a snake with a scary reputation from a snake that will genuinely eat you.
