In today’s episode, we encounter an ear that is truly an optical illusion. At first glance, the entrance is narrow—almost like a coin slot—but behind that opening lies a massive cavern. This is because the patient previously underwent a partial mastoidectomy and atticotomy, where infected bone was removed, leaving the ear canal much larger than it appears from the outside.
Watch as I navigate this unusual anatomy to remove a staggering amount of impacted wax and thick sheets of dead skin. Along the way, I take a little side trip to discuss the nature of optical illusions and how our eyes can sometimes deceive us—especially in the world of ear health!
