The Freeway Phantom — The Unsolved Serial Murder Mystery
Between 1971 and 1972, six young Black girls and teenagers disappeared in the Washington, D.C. area. Their deaths became connected to an unidentified killer known as the “Freeway Phantom.”
The victims were Carol Denise Spinks, Darlenia Denise Johnson, Brenda Faye Crockett, Nenomoshia Yates, Brenda Denise Woodard, and Diane Denise Williams.
More than five decades later, the identity of the person responsible remains unknown.
In this documentary, we examine the timeline of the murders, the evidence, the mysterious message left behind, the investigation, and the unanswered questions surrounding one of Washington, D.C.’s most notorious cold cases.
