In the winter of 1927–1928, the United States government descended upon the decaying Massachusetts seaport of Innsmouth. Hundreds were taken into custody. Sections of the waterfront were destroyed. A Navy submarine reportedly fired torpedoes into the depths beyond Devil Reef.
The official explanations never told the whole story.
Months earlier, a young traveler searching for traces of his family’s New England ancestry had made the mistake of taking the cheap road to Innsmouth.
What began as simple curiosity led him into an isolated coastal town of abandoned streets, strange inhabitants, whispered disappearances, an ancient gold refinery, the mysterious Esoteric Order of Dagon, and a bizarre piece of jewelry whose origins no archaeologist could explain.
And finally, to a ninety-six-year-old drunk named Zadok Allen, who knew what had really happened in Innsmouth.
