There’s a table in every military dining hall that nobody ever sits at — and once you know why, you’ll never walk past a POW/MIA flag the same way again.
Today is Constitution Day. Tomorrow is National POW/MIA Recognition Day. In this episode of Coffee with Soldier Mom, we sit down at the Missing Man Table — the small, permanently set table found in military dining facilities and events around the world — and unpack what every single object on it means: the white tablecloth, the single red rose, the lemon, the salt, the overturned glass, the candle, and the empty chair.
You’ll also learn the story of the only flag besides the Stars and Stripes ever flown over the White House — the POW/MIA flag — and how it was born not from the government, but from families who refused to let their missing service members be forgotten.
Then we bring it home: a kitchen table conversation about loyalty, a family challenge for this week, and why “you are not forgotten” is a promise, not a slogan.
📌 THIS WEEK’S CHALLENGE:
Ask your kids what promises your family already keeps — then make one new promise official. Write it in their handwriting and stick it somewhere permanent (the fridge is your family’s Missing Man Table).
