On the morning of January 15, 1947, a woman walking with her child in a quiet part of Los Angeles saw something in a vacant lot off South Norton Avenue. Police arrived to find the body of a 22-year-old woman who had been missing for days. Her name was Elizabeth Short.
Newspapers named her the Black Dahlia. The name stuck. The case exploded across the country. Letters showed up. Tips poured in. Suspects were questioned. None of it closed the file.
