“Do away with a week of chai and mandazi and bring home our compatriots.” One sentence from Senator Edwin Sifuna in a Senate committee room, and Kenya has not stopped sharing it.
On October 8, 2026, a joint Senate sitting heard petitions from families of Kenyans lost in the Russia-Ukraine war. The families listed about 841 names. The ministry recorded 354 cases, including 84 killed or missing in action. Sifuna’s questions on remains, cremation consents, State House spending and the missing fund turned a dry hearing into a viral moment, and “Sisi Ni Sifuna” followed.
In this video:
* The speech, line by line
* The 841 vs 354 numbers gap and the full breakdown
* The government’s position: the Russian “stop list,” no designated fund, the ask for a standing fund
* How Kenyans reacted online
* Sifuna’s road from ODM to the Equitable Party’s preferred presidential candidate
