At 3:45 in the morning, on a dark highway in North Carolina, a truck driver saw a nine-year-old girl walking alone in a raging storm. When he turned around to help her, she ran into the woods — and was never seen again.
Asha Degree was nine years old. She had packed a bag, left her house in the middle of the night, and walked into the rain for reasons no one has ever understood. Eighteen months later, her bookbag was found buried twenty-six miles away — wrapped in plastic, in the opposite direction from where she was walking. Inside it were two things that never belonged to her.
This is the fully documented story of America’s most haunting child disappearance — built from court records, news archives, and FBI files. Theories are labeled as theories. No unconvicted person is presented as guilty. Twenty-five years later, this case is moving again.
