Black Lullaby – TRACK 03 // BASEMENT 13 (Follow the Clues → Go to Track 10)

Driven by an eerie, self-playing cassette deck, this track descends into dark paranoia. As five mysterious footsteps count down into total silence, the lyrics deliver a chilling revelation: the warning voice trapped on the recording belongs to the protagonist themselves.

LYRICS:

[Intro]
The tape was still running…

Even after the batteries died.

Static filled the room.

Then I heard my own voice.

[Verse I]
I found the recorder beneath the stone,
A little machine that should’ve been gone.
The numbers flickered:

13 — 13 — 13.

But there was no thirteenth floor.

No thirteenth room.

Only the basement.

[Chorus]
Basement 13, where the dead still breathe,
Where every secret hides beneath.
Basement 13, don’t follow me,
There’s something down here that remembers me.

I heard my name inside the tape,
A voice that sounded just like mine.

“You shouldn’t have come back.”

[Verse II]
The recording spoke of five that night,
Five young faces beneath the light.
But someone had been erased from view,
And every time I listened…

The missing voice sounded more like you.

[Pre-Chorus]
The tape began to rewind itself.

Then stopped.

A child’s voice whispered:

“We’re still here.”

[Chorus]
Basement 13, where the dead still breathe,
Where every secret hides beneath.
Basement 13, don’t follow me,
The walls remember what we can’t see.

Five names carved beneath the floor,
One name scratched across the door.

And underneath it all…

“Room 407.”

[Bridge]
I pulled the tape from the machine.

It kept playing.

I smashed the recorder against the wall.

It kept playing.

Then I understood.

The tape wasn’t recording the past.

It was recording…

us.

[Breakdown]
The lights went black.

Something moved behind me.

I heard five footsteps.

Then four.

Then three.

Then two.

Then one.

A final whisper:

“Don’t turn around.”

I turned.

[Final Chorus]
Basement 13, where the dead still breathe,
Now the house is underneath me.
Basement 13, I finally see,
The voice on the tape…

Was always me.

[Outro]
The recorder clicked off.

For the first time…

Silence.

Then, from somewhere upstairs,

a door opened.

Room 407.
